Four cairns

Four cairns sit together as part of a larger cairnfield on Longstone Hill, remnants of Bronze Age burial and territorial practice on Dartmoor. These stone heaps would have been built over many centuries as communities marked the landscape with their dead and their presence. Cairnfields like this one suggest intensive use of the upland moor during prehistoric times, when the weather and woodland cover were different from today.
