Four cairns

Four substantial cairns form part of a larger cairnfield scattered across Longstone Hill, evidence of Bronze Age activity on the open moor. These stone mounds likely served as burial monuments or ritual markers, built by communities who worked the moorland thousands of years ago. The cairns remain visible today as distinctive humps in the landscape, their stones gradually settling into the turf.

Walking among them offers a sense of continuity with Dartmoor's deep past. The cairnfield sits within a wider pattern of prehistoric settlement across the high moor, where Bronze Age people left their mark through stone circles, settlements and burial mounds. This is a scheduled monument, protected for its archaeological significance.
