Eleven hut circles

This scheduled monument preserves the remains of an unenclosed Bronze Age settlement scattered across the north-east slope of Sharpitor. Eleven stone hut circles mark where families once lived, their foundations still visible among the moorland grass and heather. Boundary walls and a field system show how the community organized their land for grazing and cultivation, adapting to the high moorland environment.

Today the site offers insight into how people lived on Dartmoor thousands of years ago, long before the more prominent cairns and stone circles were built. The ruins sit within the working landscape of the moor itself, where the patterns of ancient settlement remain legible to those who walk slowly and look carefully at the ground.
