Cairn

This cairn is one of several stone monuments grouped together on Longstone Hill, forming what archaeologists call a cairnfield. Such concentrations suggest Bronze Age activity, when communities used these upland areas for burial, ritual, and possibly territorial marking. The individual cairn you see today is a Scheduled Monument, protected for its archaeological importance.

Walking across Longstone Hill, you encounter the cairn as part of the wider Dartmoor story: a moorland landscape shaped by Bronze Age peoples over three thousand years ago. The stones remain much as they were left, offering a quiet encounter with the moor's deep past and the people who lived and died here.
