Cairn

This cairn forms part of a cairnfield, a Bronze Age landscape feature common across Dartmoor. The cairns were built as burial monuments and territorial markers during the second millennium BC, when the moor was more extensively settled and farmed than it is today. Longstone Hill's cairnfield reflects the deliberate use of prominent high ground for ceremonial and domestic purposes.

Today the cairn sits within open moorland, a low stone mound among others in the same field. Walking this landscape, you encounter not isolated monuments but clusters that suggest organised communities and shared burial practices. The site is scheduled, recognising its archaeological importance to understanding Bronze Age settlement patterns across Dartmoor.
