Thornworthy Tor

Devon

Thornworthy Tor sits on Dartmoor's northern plateau at 424 metres, its granite weathered and dark against the sky. The tor itself is modest in height but characterful, with good stone exposure and the feel of high, open moorland all around. The ground here is typical Dartmoor: rough grass, heather, and bog in places, with the granite bones of the landscape always present.

The approach is across moorland without steep scrambling, making it accessible to most walkers. From the summit and its immediate surroundings, the views range across the northern moor toward Okehampton and the higher tors beyond. On clear days the landscape opens out generously. The tor works well as a destination in itself or as a point on a longer moorland walk.
