Higher Tor

Higher Tor is a straightforward granite summit on the open moor, part of the high central plateau of Dartmoor. At 470 metres, it commands clear views across the surrounding moorland, particularly toward the west and north where the landscape rolls away in wide, empty stretches of grass and heather.
The tor itself is granite, modest in character compared to some of Dartmoor's more dramatic peaks, but typical of the kind of natural high point that punctuates the moor. It sits in accessible walking country, making it a natural stop on longer moorland routes. The ground underfoot is moorland turf, sometimes boggy after rain, and the exposure here is real, there is little shelter and the weather can change quickly.
