Formed in 2007 as a farmer’s initiative inspired by HM The King when he was Prince of Wales, Dartmoor Farmers Association began with a vision: to take a holistic approach to farming that benefits our community, environment, and local economy.
Today, we’re a thriving cooperative of over 100 farmers, from small tenants to landowners, all united in supporting Dartmoor’s unique ecosystem while producing exceptional food.
Our Approach & Sustainability
Farming on Dartmoor demands resilience and respect for tradition. We achieve a good balance between a thriving landscape and nature alongside a thriving, sustainable farming system. Our slow, careful approach allows our native breeds to mature naturally with a rich, grass-based diet on the moorland, while growing and fattening our animals in the fertile valleys and better land on the fringes of the National Park.
We aspire to the highest levels of environmental stewardship in everything we do. From minimizing food miles to developing renewable energy solutions, our members work together to protect Dartmoor’s future while producing exceptional food.
