Introduction to Moorland Navigation

For walkers who would like an introduction or refresher in navigation with map and compass.

This relaxed half day session starts over tea or coffee in the Tin Pickle & Rhum. Craig will introduce participants to various maps, map features, compass components, and mapping apps. After this we’ll move outdoors and practice skills in the Haytor/Black Hill area. The main learning outcomes will be simple map reading, taking & walking on easy bearings and being able to relate some map features to what we see on the ground.

Terrain is hilly with tracks across moorland.

Maps and compasses will be provided.

Participants will need to be equipped for a half day walking on Dartmoor in the autumn.
